  • 5.8 million passengers passed through Heathrow in March 2014, down 2.8% on March 2013
  • Seats per aircraft increased 1.9% whilst load factors decreased 3.6 percentage points, to 72.2%. Passengers per aircraft decreased 3% to 146.6
  • The reduction in traffic and load factors reflects the shift of Easter holidays into April this year, from March last year
  • Within the emerging markets, Mexico was up 19%, China was up 11.6% and Turkey was up 7.2%
  • Cargo was up 4% on the previous year
  • March saw Terminal 5 receive the Skytrax ‘World’s Best Airport Terminal’ award for a third year in a row, whilst Heathrow won the ‘Best Airport for Shopping’ for a fifth time at the World Airport Awards
  • March also saw Dubai Airport report higher international passenger numbers than Heathrow over a two month period for the first time

  • 4.9 million passengers passed through Heathrow in February 2014, up 1% on the previous year
  • Seats per aircraft increased 1.6%, whilst load factors decreased 0.3 percentage points on last year to 69.3%. Passengers per aircraft increased 1.1% to 139.6.
  • BRIC passengers were up 2.5%, with China increasing 14.8% and India up 2.2%.
  • February also saw Heathrow announce a new four times a week route to Bogota, operated by Avianca - the first direct connection from the UK to Colombia in nine years.

o Passenger satisfaction at a record high with 75% rating their experience excellent or very good, compared to 48% in 2007
o Record 72.3 million passengers at Heathrow in 2013, up 3.4%
o Strong revenue (up 11.3% to £2.5 billion) and EBITDA performance (up 23.1% to £1.4 billion) supported record £1.3 billion capital investment
o Pre-tax profit of £426 million, including £292 million gain on sale of Stansted airport
o Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal opening in June 2014, following on-time completion of construction phase
o Heathrow shortlisted by Airports Commission which confirmed there is a clear need for a new runway in the South East of England

Heathrow’s response to CAA’s Q6 price control decision

Today the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has published its decision on the economic regulation of Heathrow, cutting airport charges by RPI -1.5% from 2014-2019. This will see Heathrow’s per passenger airline charges fall in real terms from £20.71 in 2013/14 to £19.10 in 2018/19.

  • Seats per aircraft increased 1.5%, whilst load factors dropped 2.6 percentage points on last year, to 70.2%. Passengers per aircraft decreased 2.1% to 142.0
  • BRIC passengers were up by 5.5%, with China up 15.9%, India up 6.7% and Brazil up 4.5%

  • 6.3 million passengers passed through Heathrow in October 2013, up 4.6% on the previous year
  • Adjusting for the effects of fog and hurricane Sandy in 2012, and hurricane St Jude this year, underlying growth was 4.0%
  • Passengers per aircraft rose 1.4% to 154.6
  • BRIC passengers were up 5.9%, with passengers to China, India and Brazil up 19.2%, 8.3% and 4.7% respectively
